It’s Official – I have fallen off the planet
There is a plethora of coaches who make a living off this very problem. Despite a forest's worth of self-help books on the subject and many 3-day seminars in time management - we all fall seem to fall into this trap. This is the reality small business - there are limited resources spread really thin. I wish I had the magic checklist to offer as a solution, but if I did I wouldn’t have fallen off the planet . . .
First of all - I do know when to prioritize and outsource. If it's not your core competency, consider outsourcing. Leverage resources around you, and focus on what makes money for your business.
Secondly, keep in mind this happens to all of us. Let it be a learning experience. However, if this becomes a continuing trend, then yes something may need to be done. Maybe it’s a business coach, or an organizer, or . . .
Until then, be aware of it, figure a plan to deal with your competing demands, and remember feeding the dog comes before everything else. . . I think there’s a dog under all this paperwork. Has anyone seen the dog?

Mike, great article. Time management and finding the important balance are essentials if you want to both make money and get fulfillment in the process.
I have built several companies and had commerical investments, and I know what it is like to get into that 80 (and even, yep, 100 hour) a week stream where everything is about building the business and nothing is about building a life. That IS how I spent a lot of my 20's and 30's - I made a great money but didn't get much of a life.
And I finally decided that one out of two wasn't enough so I sold my companies and decided to re-evaluate what I really wanted out of life both in terms of what I get and what I give to others.
That's why when I started to build my new company, I decided to first get clear on what I wanted My Life to be like - design that first - then develop a buisness model that FIT INTO MY LIFE - so I can get the financial wealth and the personal wealth that I am wanting.
I made a "conscious" decision that living my life fully is the focus, not working myself to death. And what is happening is that I am finding that I have more balance and internal resouces to work more effeciently and enjoy the process of building - both a life and a business, this time with the focus on getting it ALL and living in balance.
Best of continued success, Mike. You have some great ideas.
